Exercising with a GPS Will Give You Helpful Feedback

E-mail Print PDF

Using a GPS device can prove to be very helpful in our daily lives. It can monitor everything, from people and places to things. It is useful everywhere, from finding your way around the city to maintaining your positions in the mountains. When you lose something, it can help you trace it. The function of GPS doesn’t end there. Nowadays, it can even be used in monitoring your exercises program.

When you are into biking, running, hiking or walking, a portable GPS device can help you monitor your progress. It has a trip function that gives instant feedback and compares it against your plan. The trip function can show total time elapsed, total time moving, total time stopped, average speed, and instantaneous speed. All these functions are helpful when one exercises or competes in various sports.

In addition, a GPS device has another feature called the waypoint. It is like a bookmark wherein you input your route in advance. When you’re on the route, it will inform you how far you need to go. It will also tell you the check points, turning points, and other important things. All these are brought to you automatically. All you have to do is store your plan in the GPS device, and have some glances as you go along.

When exercising, GPS devices are much better than those cheap counters and timers. Those are not accurate, and are hard to calibrate. GPS devices use satellites to know your position and your change to a new position. If you want to maintain a certain speed during your walk, a quick glance at the average speed display will show how you are doing. Or if you want to walk a certain distance and then return, another glance will tell you how far you have come and how long it will take you to reach the halfway point. You can also compare your speed, if it is slower or faster than the average that has been planned.

These helpful features of a GPS device are great for those who are serious in their exercise program, and want to see results immediately. So the next time you plan to do some activities or exercise, try using a GPS device. You will be amazed at how much it can help you. By monitoring your speed using a GPS device, you can compete against yourself and do better the next time.

Reasons why GPS is Essential in our Everyday Life

GPS devices, or Global Positioning Systems are not merely gadgets. They’ve proven to be significant and must-haves. Here are some reasons why you should invest in one.

1. GPS provides you voice prompts when you are nearing your destination. It also gives warnings when you are over-speeding, and gives advanced notice of possible accidents. With this, GPS can save your life from reckless driving.

2. A GPS device can be your personal trainer. The Garmin Forerunner GPS can keep track of your time, speed, and distance – information needed for athletic activities. It also provides a way to measure the amount of calories burned based on a variety of customizable personal options and factors.

3. Save money on your car insurance. Some auto insurance providers, in return for allowing them to install GPS tracking devices on your car, can help you reduce your premiums.

4. Save on gas, brake wear, etc on your car as you drive more efficiently.

5. Find where you want to go faster: important business meetings, life events, but also to save your own time, so you can use the extra to be with your loved ones.

6. Have peace of mind and lessen worrying about the whereabouts of your family. With GPS, you’ll know where your children are, your elderly parents, or whether your family pet has wandered off.

7. Have an efficient business by tracking your employees, and prevent time and money loss.

Another great thing about having a GPS is that, unlike computers, you don’t have to get new models from time to time. Some models from Garmin, Magellan, or Lowrance will last the typical user many years. Moreover, a GPS doesn’t have monthly fees as they are free like radio waves. All you need to have is a receiver. If you want additional features, like tracking services for your children, elderly, your valuable possessions, and your pets, a nominal monthly fee is required, depending on the service provider and your needs, whether commercial or private.

Cell Phone GPS Tracking – An Invasion of Privacy?

We all value our privacy. As much as possible, we don’t want other people to meddle in our private life and activities. However; in the present time and age, keeping our privacy is a major concern. This is with all the present innovations that can track our every movement. One of these is the cell phone GPS tracking.

Any tracking device, such as the cell phone GPS tracking, has lots of advantages. In times of emergency, it can be used to call 911 and in return, save lives. The GPS signal from the cell phone will aid the 911operator to locate the exact place of the accident. For these reasons, the FCC has instructed that wireless network providers provide the cell phone GPS tracking location information for 911 calls which have been made from cell phones. This is known as E911.This is different from a call made from a landline, as the land line is registered to an address, and the relevant emergency services can be quickly dispatched to that address.

The difference is that the house, or the property, does not change location, whereas the tracking of a GPS cell phone is registering the day to day movements of an individual. This matter gives rise to some privacy concerns of who can access such private information. Fortunately, there’s a law concerning E911 that is clear enough to all cell phone owners. The law permits carriers to provide tracking location information to third parties for e911 emergency calls only, however; not under any other circumstances whatsoever, without the consent of the cell phone owner.

The privacy of cell phone GPS tracking has also been backed up by a number of recent court hearings. Recent court hearings have disallowed the requests of law enforcement agencies to obtain cell phone GPS tracking information from the cell phone companies for suspects. The courts have ruled that Congress has not authorized location tracking without actual evidence of wrongdoing, and that probable cause is not sufficient reason for the release of records.

These events and actions by the government and concerned sector, only prove that they are safeguarding the privacy of every citizen. The cell phone GPS tracking, along with its advantages, can still be enjoyed without compromising privacy issues. The advance in technology is good as long as it is used in a proper way.

Anyone who owns some sort of vehicle understands the importance of keeping track of it. It’s a big investment, after all, and it should be protected. You’ve put in enough work and sacrificed quite a bit for it, so why not get a powerful tracking device like the ProTrack GPS?

This real-time tracking device, the ProTrak GPS, is made specifically for tracking vehicles. It uses GPS satellite technology to do so. It then uses cellular technology as a way to send the information to you.

What is the ProTrak’s Mechanism of Action?

As previously mentioned, the ProTrack use GPS satellites to track vehicles in real time. These GPS satellites broadcast continuously from a 20,000 mile orbit, and the ProTrak gets these signals and uses them to determine a vehicle’s location. The information that is broadcasted, that is, the Unit ID, longitude, latitude, and other data, is transmitted via a CDMA modem that uses cellular technology. It can be sent to either a PC or control station where it can be displayed on a map.

Basically, the ProTrak GPS is made up of a GPS receiver along with a cellular modem that is normally attached to the vehicle being tracked. The system also contains a “puck” antenna that is attached magnetically to the bottom of the bumper cover.

According to the manufacturers, power is supplied to the ProTrak by connecting it directly to the power of the vehicle, or alternately, with a rechargeable battery pack. These battery packs can power it for about five days. There also exists a power-saving mode that will put the system to “sleep” and only turn it on when it gets a call from the control center. If need be, it can also be programmed to remain on at all times. This will let you track your vehicle continuously.

ProTrak GPS Features

The ProTrak GPS has the following features:

* Live GPS vehicle tracking using a cellular network.

* Both automatic and manual activation, as well as dial-out to wherever you want.

* A mode for dial-in used to track and control vehicles.

* A single-vendor software and hardware system that is fully integrated.

* GPS maps that are easy to read and that display automatically.

* No infrastructure is required. A PC and base station modem is all that’s needed.

Besides all these wonderful attributes, the ProTrak GPS comes with a host modem, cables, and antennas. It also includes a CD-ROM program with U.S. maps. This final feature, however, hasn’t been made available yet to most countries. At the moment, this feature can only be used in Canada. .

It’s not surprising then that the Protrak can let you locate your vehicle with such precision at any point on the map, with such amazing features. With this real-time tracking device, you can keep track of your vehicle from the comfort of home. Don’t worry ever again about your kids, spouse, or employees.
